Fissure sealing

Fissure sealing is a simple and highly effective way to protect molars from tooth decay over the long term. The chewing surfaces of back teeth often have deep grooves (fissures) where bacteria and food particles can easily accumulate. Even with good oral hygiene, these areas are difficult to clean thoroughly, which increases the risk of decay.

During fissure sealing, these fine grooves are carefully cleaned and then covered with a thin, specialised coating. This protective layer seals the fissures, making it harder for plaque and bacteria to build up—without removing any healthy tooth structure.

Fissure sealing is particularly beneficial for children and adolescents once their permanent molars have erupted, as teeth are especially vulnerable to decay at this stage. However, it can also be recommended for adults in certain cases. We would be happy to advise you individually at our practice.
